Alice Colby received her Bachelors degree from Manhattan School of Music and Masters degree from Purchase College Conservatory of Music, where she was a scholarship student of Daniel Phillips and Sally Thomas. While at Purchase, Ms. Colby performed in the master class of Elmar Oliveira. She has also participated in master classes by David Halen at Orford Arts Centre in Quebec and Simon Fischer in the United Kingdom.
Ms. Colby has been teaching the violin for 20 years. She attended a summer workshop at the Hartt School Suzuki Teacher Institute and a violin pedagogy course at Indiana University. She has taught at Merit Music School in New Canaan/Norwalk, CT and Music and Art School in Staten Island.
Several years ago, Ms. Colby furthered her interest in pedagogy through music education courses at Teachers College, Columbia University. She enjoys combining different approaches to enable students to play music that they love and have fun doing it!
