Course Description

Performance Band | Ages 7–14 Take Your Instrument Into a Real Band. Further Rocks Performance Band is designed for young musicians who already study guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, or voice and are ready to take their skills beyond individual lessons. Under the direction of a professional band instructor, students rehearse and perform alongside other young musicians while learning how their individual part fits into a complete band arrangement. The program reinforces skills developed in private lessons while building confidence, independence, teamwork, and motivation to practice. Repertoire may include rock, pop, R&B, jazz, and other contemporary styles, selected according to the level and interests of each ensemble. What Students Will Experience 10 weekly 45-minute band rehearsals Small, level-appropriate ensemble experience Professional musical direction Complete song and band arrangements Rhythm, timing, listening, and ensemble skills Songwriting and creative projects Opportunities for solos and improvisation when appropriate Stage presence and performance preparation School-wide Further Rocks Band Recital Professional recording session Band Roles Each ensemble may include: Guitar • Bass • Keyboard • Drums • Voice Instrumentation and individual roles may vary depending on enrollment and the musical needs of each band. Recommended Experience Performance Band is designed for students who already have a foundation on their primary instrument or voice. Guitar/Bass: 3+ months of learning experience Voice: 3+ months of learning experience Drums: 3+ months of learning experience Keyboard: ABRSM Grade 2 or equivalent Students should be able to learn and practice assigned musical parts between rehearsals. Placement is based on ability, and a brief video or placement consultation may be requested to ensure the right ensemble fit. Perform & Record Every Performance Band works toward real musical experiences beyond the rehearsal room. Students will take the stage with other Further Rocks ensembles at our school-wide Band Recital, followed by the opportunity to experience the recording process during our professional Recording Day.
