Course Description

Discovery Band | Ages 5–8 Explore Instruments. Discover Your Sound. Play in a Band. Further Rocks Discovery Band is designed for young beginners who want to experience the excitement of making music together—no previous musical experience required. Instead of choosing one instrument from the beginning, students explore and rotate through guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, percussion, and voice. Through hands-on activities and simple band arrangements, students discover how different instruments work together and which musical roles they enjoy most. Under the guidance of a professional instructor, students learn fundamental rhythm, listening, and ensemble skills while experiencing what it feels like to be part of a real band. What Students Will Experience Guided instrument exploration and rotation Guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, percussion, and voice Basic rhythm, melody, and musical foundations Simple, age-appropriate songs and band arrangements Listening, teamwork, and ensemble skills Songwriting and creative musical activities Opportunities to discover a preferred instrument or musical role Further Rocks Band Recital Professional recording experience Experience Level No previous music experience is required. Parts and instruments are adapted to each student's ability, allowing complete beginners to participate and make music together from the start. Fall Performance & Recording Band Recital: Sunday, December 6, 2026 Recording Day: Saturday, December 12, 2026 Program Format Ages 5–8 10 Weeks • 45 Minutes Weekly In-Person at Further Music School – Forest Hills Instruments are provided for students during instrument rotations.
